Discounts on BSI/ISO standards

BSI logo

As you know, the ISTC has been investigating ways in which it can provide more benefits to its members. We are now an occasional distributor for BSI.

Occasional distributorship means that we can buy standards in bulk at a discount. Most of the discount is passed on to members and others using the scheme, with just a small amount retained to cover administration costs. To protect the ISTC from any risk in such a venture, we take advance bookings and then order an appropriate quantity to fill them.

If there is a standard that you would like to order, e-mail the details (with your full name, phone number, preferred e-mail address and full postal address) to Marian Newell. Marian will then publicise the order through the usual ISTC channels to see if any other members are interested and place an order with BSI for the appropriate quantity.

Participating in standards development

Would you like to participate in the development of international standards in the technical writing community?

Working Group 2 (WG2) is the group within ISO that creates standards for technical documentation. The unofficial WG2 web page gives an overview of the standards that are being developed.

WG2 is looking for help with a new documentation standard for managers (informally known as Project 11). There are two levels of involvement: project authors write parts of the standard, and project reviewers make comments on the drafts. See www.hci.com.au/iso/project%5F11/ for more information and to sign up.
