Overall Winner (Trophy Winner)
Ulrica Cheng, Jane Chang
IBM COBOL Upgrade Advisor for z/OS and supporting
content

We are pleased to present the Award for Excellence to this entry that tackles some of the most challenging yet underappreciated aspects of technical writing: migrating old content and managing technical debt while simultaneously delivering new content within a time constraint.
The team undertook an ambitious migration project for a complex, large-scale product where upgrading from legacy systems to newer versions demands meticulous planning and expertise. This entry showcases important qualities that define successful technical communication teams: flexibility and adaptability. Rather than rigidly adhering to timelines at the expense of quality, they prioritised stakeholder value to ensure the delivered product was genuinely useful to its audience. The judges were impressed by how the entry illustrated the real lifecycle of technical writers in action: the ability to balance competing priorities, respond to changing circumstances, and pivot strategically without compromising excellence.

Merit Award Winner
Rachel Potts and 3di Information Solutions Ltd
Content operations implementation diagrams

We are pleased to recognise this entry with a Merit Award. This comprehensive template for creating and managing content strategy addresses a challenge that resonates across the technical communication field—once you develop the strategy how do you keep it from going stale/out of date. What sets this entry apart is its dual achievement: not only does it demonstrate the importance of a good content strategy for any organisation, but it also presents a simple yet powerful framework for implementing one. By integrating mechanisms to ensure continuous stakeholder buy-in, this template transforms content strategy from a static document into a living, dynamic process. The judges were particularly impressed by the entry’s ability to balance simplicity with flexibility, making it accessible and adaptable whether applied in a startup environment or across a large enterprise.

Merit Award Winner
ROCKWOOL Core Solutions, Definition, Dr Marco Imperadori
Building with stone wool insulated sandwich panels

This entry challenges the traditional boundaries between marketing communications and technical communications. These are two fields that tend to operate independently, however this entry demonstrates the remarkable potential that emerges when these fields work together. By seamlessly blending technical expertise with marketing appeal, the creators have produced a compelling resource that educates readers about the benefits of stone wool while simultaneously marketing its benefits to its audience. What truly distinguishes this work is the collaborative excellence evident throughout: subject matter experts, stakeholders, users, and skilled writers all converged with unwavering focus to create something greater than the sum of its parts. The judges were particularly impressed with the approach of merging technical communication and persuasive marketing material. This entry is a great example of what can be achieved when diverse perspectives and expertise unite around a shared vision of excellence.

Merit Award Winner
Tejas Jare and Annette Sohor
IBM Envizi Supply Chain Intelligence Documentation

We are pleased to recognize this entry with a Merit Award for its approach to user-centered documentation. What immediately stood out was the comprehensive yet remarkably well-organized structure that transforms what could easily become an overwhelming documentation set into a navigable, accessible resource. Its use of real-world user cases empowers users to independently explore the documentation set and locate precisely the information they need without frustration. The judges were impressed by how the documentation speaks directly to its audience with appropriate depth and language and the overall structural coherence that guides users seamlessly through the material.
